This page vs the other reads

Notion vs Airtable is which object you keep: a wiki of pages, or a base of linked records.

Notion vs Superhuman Docs (formerly Coda) is a workspace of pages versus one living doc. The rename note lives on Coda is now Superhuman Docs.

Notion alternatives is stay or leave. Name one system of record is which hub gets the write path before you wire other apps. This page starts after the Notion bill is the question.

Notion Free vs Plus is the one step from Free to Plus. This page is the four-plan map.

When Notion automations are enough is Notion’s automation ceiling. It is not the plan price. Airtable pricing explained is Airtable’s seat map.

The four public plans

These are the plans on Notion — pricing, read 2026-10-16. The currency control said Price in USD. The page has a Pay yearly and a Pay monthly control. The listed prices below are the plan prices on notion.com/pricing, last re-read on 2026-10-29. Check which billing control shows each price on the pricing page before you pick a cycle.

The same control prints “Save up to 20% with yearly.”

Free. Free limits are in the grid below.

Plus. Check the price under each billing control on the pricing page before you pick a cycle.

Business. Check the price under each billing control on the pricing page before you pick a cycle.

Enterprise. The card says Contact Sales. The grid says Contact us.

If you upgrade your workspace to one of the paid plans, you will be charged a fee per member.

When your billing cycle renews, either monthly or annually, you will be charged for your plan amount multiplied by the number of members in your workspace, plus any prorated charges for new paid seats added in the past month.

The card says “per member / month.” The grid says “per seat/month.” The pricing FAQ says the cycle is “monthly or annually.” Help says “on a monthly plan” and “on a yearly plan.” This page quotes all four.

The Plus Plan (with a 1-member limit) is free for students and educators.

That student line is the Plus plan with a 1-member limit, not a fifth plan.

Add-on prices on the same page

Two other lines sit on that pricing page. They are not the member price.

Custom Agents. The page says Custom Agents are free to try, then priced per pack of Notion credits on the pricing page. The comparison grid prints “Requires Notion credits” on Business and Enterprise, and an empty cell on Free and Plus. The credit pack is not the Plus member price.

Workers. The card says Workers, with a Beta mark, and “Extend Notion with custom code.” The grid prints “Requires Notion credits” on Business and Enterprise, and an empty cell on Free and Plus.

Custom domains. The grid prints “Pay per domain” on Plus, Business, and Enterprise.

Who is billed

Notion’s own words are member, guest, and seat. The bill follows members. A seat is the license for one member. Guests are a different invite. Read 2026-10-16.

Notion uses a billing model that charges you based on the number of seats, or licenses, you are using in your workspace. One seat is assigned to each member in your workspace.

A paid seat can be thought of as a license for one member to use your Notion workspace.

Guests are free of charge – but they can only access individual pages they are invited to. In other words, guests won’t be able to see all the team pages under the Teamspaces section in the left sidebar.

Before you add someone to your workspace as a member, remember that adding members to a paid Notion workspace is a billable action and will incur additional charges on your invoice.

You’ll be asked if you’d like to upgrade the guest to a member — select Skip for now to ensure that they’ll be added to that page at no cost.

Help says a guest invite still depends on the plan’s guest limit. The pricing grid prints that limit: 10 on Free, and Unlimited guests on Plus, Business, and Enterprise. A guest who is upgraded to a member is a member.

On a monthly plan, Help says the next invoice bills the month ahead, including new members, and also includes retroactive prorated charges for members added in the last interval. On a yearly plan, Help says the invoice at the next month mark includes the amount due for each new member for the rest of the year, plus retroactive charges for the time they have already been in the workspace. Removing a member does not prorate the current cycle. The seat stays available until the cycle ends.

Limits that usually force the next plan

These rows are the comparison grid on the same pricing page, 2026-10-16. Columns run Free, Plus, Business, Enterprise. The billing control changes the dollar in the column heading. It does not change the words in these rows. Both controls were checked. A cell with a check mark and no words is written “Check mark” here. An empty cell is —.

If you’re using a Free Plan workspace by yourself, you’ll be able to add as many pages and blocks as you like. If you’re using a Free Plan workspace with multiple members, you’ll be able to add a limited number of blocks before you have to upgrade. When you reach the limit, you can still read, edit, and organize existing content blocks as usual, but you won’t be able to add new content blocks.

The grid says Free pages and blocks are “Unlimited for individuals” and “limited for 2+ members.” The FAQ says “a limited number of blocks” and does not print the number. An exact Free block count for 2+ members: —.

File uploads are “Up to 5 MB” on Free and “Unlimited” on Plus, Business, and Enterprise. Page history is 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, and Unlimited on those same plans. External guest limit is 10, then Unlimited guests. Those three rows are the usual reason a second person, a large file, or an old version forces Plus.

Notion AI on the cards: Free and Plus include “Trial of Notion AI.” Business includes Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes, and Enterprise Search with a Beta mark. The grid prints “Limited Trial” for Notion Agent, Meeting notes, and Research mode on Free and Plus, and a check mark on Business and Enterprise. Enterprise Search is empty on Free and Plus and a check mark on Business and Enterprise. The Research mode row also prints a Beta mark. Data retention is “30 day retention” on Free, Plus, and Business, and “Zero data retention” on Enterprise. A trial length, and a credit count for that trial: —.

Automations on the grid: “Basic buttons only” on Free, “Custom database automations” on Plus, and “Same as plus” on Business and Enterprise. That row is which plan includes database automations. What those automations do, and when they stop, is the other page named below.

When a limit should push a comparison

Stay on this page when the decision is the next Notion plan: another member, more than 10 guests, a file larger than 5 MB, page history past 7 days, or Notion AI past the Limited Trial. Verify the live workspace before you buy. The numbers above are the public grid, not your invoice.

Compare hubs when the object is the problem, not the cap. A base of linked records is Notion vs Airtable. One living doc is Notion vs Superhuman Docs (formerly Coda), with the rename on Coda is now Superhuman Docs. A stay-or-leave list is Notion alternatives. Name the hub before you wire other apps on Name one system of record. Airtable’s own seat bill is Airtable pricing explained.

If the cap is how Notion automations behave, use When Notion automations are enough.
