This page vs the other reads

Tasks vs credits vs executions is the dictionary of three words, and why 1 is not 1 across tools. This page stays on n8n’s execution. It does not reprint that dictionary.

When you hit the meter is the ceiling on Zapier, Make, and n8n together. This page quotes n8n’s own cap lines, then stops.

When n8n Cloud is the right pick is whether hosted n8n is the product. When n8n self-host is worth it is whether you should run the box. This page starts after the bill is the question.

n8n alternatives is a switch list. Switching from n8n Cloud to Make is the rebuild. Make pricing explained is Make’s credit map. Zapier pricing explained is Zapier’s task map. This page does not reprint those.

n8n Starter vs Pro is the one step from Starter to Pro. n8n Pro vs Business is the next step, including that the Business card says self-hosted only. n8n Business vs Enterprise is the step after that: Business stays self-hosted only, and Enterprise can be hosted by n8n or self-hosted. n8n annual vs monthly is the billing cycle after the column is chosen. This page is the four-column map. It does not walk those steps.

This page is the n8n commercial map. A column. An execution step. What one full run counts. What the account does when that step is used. Where the 2026-10-05 HTML printed a euro, and where it did not print a US dollar.

The four public columns

These are the columns on n8n pricing, HTML captured 2026-10-05. The annual switch was checked. Its label is “Annually (Save 17%).” The page says all plans include unlimited users and workflows and every integration, and that pricing is based on monthly workflow executions, regardless of complexity. This page quotes the annual card. A monthly-billed price: —. A price this page does not quote stays —.

Pay for full executions, not for each step. Unlike other tools that charge per step or user, n8n lets you build freely and only pay when a workflow runs from start to finish.

Not yet. The Business plan is currently only available for self-hosted n8n.

The Business card still sits on the pricing page, with 667€/mo, billed annually, and 40K workflow executions. The FAQ on that page says hosted Business is not open yet. This page quotes both. A date for hosted Business: —.

The Cloud docs name a shorter list for hosted plans: Free trial, Starter, Pro, and Enterprise. They say the pricing page is where the current price lives. This page does not drop Business off the pricing page, and it does not add it to Cloud.

What an execution is

The billing unit on these plans is an execution. The definition below is the pricing FAQ, read 2026-10-05. The docs page uses a shorter line on the same day.

An execution is a single run of your entire workflow. It doesn’t matter how many steps are in the workflow or how much data it processes. It’s still a single execution.

An execution is a single run of a workflow.

Paid plans, whether cloud or self-hosted, have an execution limit quota. Only production executions count towards this quota. These are executions started automatically by triggers, schedules, or polling.

Step count does not change the word. A cross-tool conversion of one execution into Zapier tasks or Make credits lives on Tasks vs credits vs executions.

What counts, and what does not

The docs split the count by trigger. A rate that is not “one execution for the whole run” stays in the words n8n printed.

What n8n counts as an execution. Docs, accessed 2026-10-05.
TriggerWhat the docs say
Schedule TriggerOne execution every time the node fires, regardless of outcome.
Polling triggerOne execution only when new data is found. The docs use a Google Drive Trigger as the example.
Webhook TriggerOne execution for every inbound request that activates the trigger, including a request with an empty body.
Production runPaid plans count production executions: runs started automatically by triggers, schedules, or polling. The docs say this applies on cloud and on self-hosted paid plans, and in a development or production environment.
What the executions docs say does not count toward the quota.
RunWhat the docs say
Manual executionsRunning a workflow from the editor while building or testing does not count toward the quota.
Sub-workflow executionsWhen a workflow calls another with the Execute Sub-workflow node, only the parent execution counts.
Error workflowA run of a workflow set as an error workflow does not count toward the quota.
Polls that return no dataA polling trigger counts only when it finds new data.
Malformed or rejected requestsA webhook request that fails before the workflow starts does not count.

Schedule Trigger nodes: Count one execution every time the node fires, regardless of outcome.

Failed executions do not count against your execution quota.

The schedule line counts a firing regardless of outcome. The Cloud FAQ says failed executions do not count, and points at the executions docs. Both were read 2026-10-05. A rule that deletes one of them: —.

Cloud trialThe pricing FAQ says a Cloud trial needs no credit card and lists 1,000 executions, 5 concurrent executions, a 180-second timeout, and 1 team project. Business on CloudThe pricing FAQ says the Business plan is not yet available on n8n Cloud. It is currently only available for self-hosted n8n. A Business-plan trial requires a credit card. What happens when the cap is hit

n8n prints two paths. The Cloud FAQ is Trial, Starter, Pro-1, and Pro-2. The pricing FAQ is a Business or Enterprise subscription. Both were read 2026-10-05.

Executions at the limit are not queued. They fail immediately with an error. There is no backlog: normal execution only resumes for new attempts once your plan resets or you upgrade.

Execution limit reached. Consider upgrading your plan.

The same FAQ says this fail-immediately path applies on Trial, Starter, Pro-1, and Pro-2. Workflows stay active. Triggers keep firing. Each over-limit run fails before any nodes run, and it stays failed. Limits reset at the start of each calendar month, regardless of the bill date. A queued state on that page is the concurrency limit, not the monthly quota. A concurrency-queued run waits, then runs.

Trial is 1,000 executions. Starter is 2,500. Pro-1 is 10,000. Those are the Cloud FAQ’s words. The pricing cards, same access date, show Starter at 2.5K and Pro at 10K. Pro-2 monthly can add executions in the admin panel, up to 500,000. A dollar for that add-on: —.

If you exceed your quota, rest assured your workflows will continue running without interruption, but overage charges may apply if you do not upgrade to the next usage tier.

For the Business plan, overage prices are 4,000 EUR for extra buckets of 300,000 executions.

That continue-and-overage sentence is the Business or Enterprise subscription. It is not the Cloud Starter or Pro fail-immediately path. The pricing FAQ also says Business is not yet on Cloud. A US dollar for the 4,000 EUR bucket: —.

Saved-execution history is a third limit. The pricing FAQ says each plan limits how many executions are kept, how much storage they use on Cloud, and how many days they are kept. Hitting that limit does not stop workflows. It only drops the oldest history.

Where self-hosting fits

Community Edition is the free software. You pay for the computer it runs on, and you own the upkeep. This page does not invent that hosting bill.

A standard, self-hosted version of n8n is available on GitHub.

The Community edition includes almost the complete feature set of n8n.

You can stick with the free Community edition indefinitely, or register for free to unlock extra features.

The choose-how table lists Community as Free. The same page says self-hosted means you must provide and manage the infrastructure. Registered Community is still free and adds folders, debug in editor, and custom execution data. A paid Business or Enterprise license key unlocks the paid features on a box you run. The pricing FAQ says that key must ping n8n’s license server daily, and the ping includes the production-execution count.

The Community card on the pricing page does not print a euro or a dollar. A hosting bill: —. A Community execution cap on these pages: —. Whether the box is worth owning is When n8n self-host is worth it.

When the execution meter is the signal

The meter is the signal to compare tools when the decision in front of you is the execution allocation itself: one count for a whole production run, a fail-immediately path on Cloud Starter and Pro, and a continue-and-overage path on a Business or Enterprise subscription. The plan column still changes projects, concurrency, and history. The volume that spends is the execution step.
